Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Rightsnipe is a Chrome browser extension that monitors Rightmove property listings, provides area intelligence data, and helps users manage their rental property search. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Rightsnipe collects, how it is used, and where it is stored.
Data that stays on your device
All of the following data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). It never leaves your device and is never sent to Rightsnipe or any third party:
- Saved searches — your Rightmove search criteria and monitoring preferences
- Property history — properties found during monitoring, including status, notes, and shortlist flags
- Autofill data — your name, email address, phone number, postcode, viewing request message template, and screening answers (used exclusively for autofilling Rightmove viewing request forms)
- Area intelligence cache — cached results from public data APIs to reduce repeated lookups
- Settings and preferences — notification preferences, work address for commute estimates, check interval, and analytics opt-out preference
If you uninstall the extension or clear browser data, this information is permanently deleted.
Anonymous usage analytics
Rightsnipe collects anonymous usage analytics to understand which features are used and to improve the extension. This data includes:
- A randomly generated anonymous identifier (not linked to your identity, email, or any personal information)
- Event names (e.g. "monitoring_started", "area_intel_loaded") with timestamps
- Extension version number
This data is sent to a Cloudflare Worker endpoint and stored in a Cloudflare D1 database. It contains no personal information, no browsing history, no property details, and no IP addresses.
You can opt out at any time by clicking "Opt out" at the bottom of the Rightsnipe settings page. When opted out, no analytics data is collected or sent. Your opt-out preference is stored locally alongside your other settings.
External services
To provide area intelligence data, Rightsnipe makes requests directly from your browser to the following public data APIs. These requests go straight from your browser to these services — they do not pass through any Rightsnipe server:
- postcodes.io — postcode to coordinate lookup (open, no API key)
- Police UK API (data.police.uk) — local crime statistics
- Environment Agency (environment.data.gov.uk) — flood risk data
- MHCLG / Open Data Communities (opendatacommunities.org, assets.publishing.service.gov.uk) — deprivation and area quality indices
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API (overpass-api.de + mirrors) — transport links, walkability amenities
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) — address geocoding for commute estimates
- maps.mail.ru — nearby school data
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. Rightsnipe does not control or store data on these services.
All requests to external services are made over HTTPS encrypted connections.
Data we do NOT collect or transmit
- Your personal details (name, email, phone, postcode) are stored locally for autofill purposes only and are never transmitted to Rightsnipe or any third party
- Your Rightmove account credentials
- Your browsing history outside of Rightmove
- The content of properties you view or save (property data is stored locally only)
- Your IP address (our analytics endpoint does not log IPs)
- Cookies or cross-site tracking of any kind
Permissions explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — save your searches, property history, autofill details, settings, and cached data locally in your browser
- notifications — send Chrome desktop notifications when new properties matching your saved searches are found
- alarms — schedule periodic background checks for new listings at your chosen interval
- offscreen — play a notification sound in the background when new properties are found (service workers cannot access audio APIs directly)
The extension also declares host permissions for rightmove.co.uk (core functionality) and the public data APIs listed above (area intelligence). Content scripts are injected into Rightmove pages via the manifest to provide the area intelligence panel, autofill, and search-saving features.
Data retention and deletion
Local data: All data stored on your device persists until you uninstall the extension, clear your browser data, or manually delete individual items (such as saved searches or property history) through the extension's interface. You are in full control of this data at all times.
Analytics data: Anonymous analytics data stored in our Cloudflare D1 database is retained for up to 12 months and then automatically deleted. Because analytics data contains only a random identifier with no link to your identity, it cannot be traced back to you. If you wish to request deletion of your analytics data, contact us at privacy@rightsnipe.com with your anonymous identifier (visible in the extension's developer console) and we will delete it promptly.
Chrome Web Store compliance
Rightsnipe's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children's privacy
Rightsnipe is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be noted in the extension's changelog.
